Dental Implants in Albania vs the UK: The Real Cost Breakdown

A full arch of fixed teeth costs from £5,000 in Tirana and £12,000–£25,000 in the UK. Here is exactly where that difference comes from — and what the price should include.

The short version

A full arch of fixed teeth on implants — All-on-4 — starts at £5,000 at our partner clinic in Tirana. The same treatment in the UK typically runs £12,000 to £25,000 per arch.

That is not a small saving, and the natural reaction is suspicion. So this article does the opposite of a sales pitch: it explains precisely why the gap exists, and what you should insist on before paying anyone, anywhere.

Where the difference actually comes from

The price gap is not because the implants are worse. It comes from four things.

Overheads. A dental practice on a UK high street pays UK commercial rent, UK salaries, UK utilities and UK business rates. A clinic in Tirana does not. Staff costs alone are typically a fifth of the UK equivalent. That is the single largest factor and it has nothing to do with clinical quality.

Lab costs. Crowns, bridges and prosthetics are made in dental laboratories. A UK lab charges several times what an Albanian lab charges for the same zirconia or E-MAX work, using the same materials and often the same equipment.

Regulatory and insurance load. UK practices carry indemnity and compliance costs that get passed to the patient.

Currency and cost of living. Albania's general cost base is far lower. Everything from sterilisation supplies to the receptionist's salary scales down with it.

None of these four are "we cut corners". They are structural. This is the same reason the identical pair of shoes costs different amounts in Zurich and Lisbon.

What is not cheaper

The implants themselves. We place Osstem and Madigma implants — these are internationally sold systems with published clinical data, bought at world market prices. An implant fixture costs roughly the same whether it is shipped to Manchester or Tirana. Any clinic quoting an implausibly low price is almost certainly economising on the fixture itself, and that is the one component you should never economise on.

Ask for the implant brand in writing. If a clinic will not name it, walk away.

What the price should include

A quote is meaningless until you know what is inside it. Ours includes:

  • The implants themselves (4 or 6 per arch)
  • 3D planning and guided surgery
  • Free temporary teeth to wear while you heal
  • The final fixed, non-removable arch
  • A four-night stay package
  • A free online consultation and written quote before you commit

The items that catch people out elsewhere are bone grafts, sinus lifts and extractions. If your jaw has lost bone volume — common if teeth have been missing for years — you may need a sinus lift, bone graft or split crest before implants can be placed securely. A quote that ignores this possibility is not a real quote. Ask what happens, and what it costs, if you turn out to need one.

The honest arithmetic of travelling

Add the things a clinic quote does not cover:

  • Flights to Tirana (often £80–£200 return from the UK, booked ahead)
  • Any accommodation beyond the included nights
  • Food, local transport, time off work
  • A second trip, if your treatment is staged

Even loading all of that on top, a full arch typically lands well under half the UK price. But do the sum with real numbers for your own case rather than trusting a headline figure — including ours.

When travelling is the wrong choice

It is worth being straight about this. Dental tourism is a poor fit if:

  • You need genuinely urgent emergency treatment — get seen locally
  • You cannot take the time off for the trip, or a possible follow-up
  • You have a complex medical history that needs close ongoing monitoring
  • The anxiety of being treated away from home would outweigh the saving

For a planned, well-defined treatment — a full arch, veneers, crowns — travelling is straightforward. For unpredictable, staged work needing many visits, the maths and the logistics both get worse.

Questions worth asking any clinic

Before you pay a deposit anywhere:

  1. Which implant brand and system, exactly?
  2. What is the guarantee, and what does it actually cover?
  3. Who treats me if there is a problem after I fly home?
  4. Is the quote fixed, or does it change if I need grafting?
  5. How many nights do I need to stay, and how many trips?
  6. Can I see before-and-after photos of comparable cases?

A clinic that answers all six clearly is one worth considering. That is true in Tirana, and it is equally true in London.

Getting a real number for your case

Prices in this article are starting prices. What you would pay depends on how many teeth are involved, the state of the underlying bone, and which materials you choose.

We give a written quote after a free online consultation — send a few photos and any recent X-rays and you will get a specific figure rather than a range.

Send us your details and we will come back with a full breakdown.
